The Celtics will add free-agent forward Troy Murphy, who reached a buyout agreement with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, once he clears waivers, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY but requested anonymity because it had not become official.
Free-agent point guard Mike Bibby, who reached a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards on Monday, will sign with the Miami Heat.
Boston is 43-15 and in first place in the Eastern Conference. Miami is 43-17 and in second place, just a game behind the Celtics.
The Celtics have room on their roster to add Murphy without releasing a player, after the trades Celtics made last week: sending center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder for forward Jeff Green and center Nenad Krstic and sending rookie big men Luke Harangody and Semih Erden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a draft pick.
