It seems impossible. Unthinkable. Ridiculous.

But speculation is growing that “American Idol” host and E! bubblehead Ryan Seacrest will replace Matt Lauer should Lauer decide not to renew his contract with NBC’s flagship show “Today.” 

NBC Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt told the New York Daily News that it is premature to comment on Seacrest’s possible role on the show, but that Seacrest is “a tremendous asset that we hope to keep in the family.”
