Sales tax proposal moves ahead

A proposal to raise Muskogee’s sales tax one-tenth of a percent to fund the hiring of 10 additional police officers cleared its first hurdle when Finance Committee members approved the measure.

The measure proposed by Mayor John Tyler Hammons passed with a 7-1 vote. Councilor Jackie Luckey was not present. The vote moves the issue forward to the City Council, which will meet Monday.
