State Senate passes 'Personhood Bill'

Critics of a controversial measure that declares "personhood" at conception say it could lead to unintended consequences.

But the author, Sen. Brian Crain, R-Tulsa, believes Senate Bill 1433 makes an important policy statement and would not lead to an array of situations voiced by critics.

The Senate last week passed the measure by a vote of 34-8, sending it to the House.

"The laws of this state shall be interpreted and construed to acknowledge on behalf of the unborn child at every stage of development all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons, citizens, and residents of the state," the measure states.
